The young sculptress Laura Eckert (1983, Trier) is a great talent in the figurative sculpture art. Currently she lives and works in Germany where she has her studio in the Spinnerei. Eckert makes impressive sculptures out of wood and stone. The human is central to the theme in here work, within which she is looking for the relation between the cultural, the social, the biological and the psychological. This layerdness is seen in the sculptures of the artist. For the creation of the sculptures she doesn’t make use of drawings or models. According to the artist the sculptures just originate by themselves, as a result from the shape of the wood. Or in some cases it can be the face of someone that she observed passing by.
