Nico Heilijgers is selected to paint a portrait of former mayor Jan van Zanen. The work will be on view in the hall of fame of Utrecht City Hall, alongside all the other portraits of the former mayors.
In September, the municipality organised an open call to all Utrecht artists to submit sketches. A total of forty painters, but also photographers, were invited for a posing session with Van Zanen. Based on this, they could provide sketches. In the end, Heilijgers was selected by a jury from around fifty artists who submitted sketch designs.
All submitted sketch designs can be seen from 2 to 25 February in an exhibition in the City Hall of Utrecht. Heilijgers' artwork is also unveiled during this period.
