Leslie Lewis Sigler & Alice De Vliegher: Delicacy

28 March - 2 May 2026
Overview

In the duo exhibition Delicacy,  the refined table still lifes of Leslie Lewis Sigler and the monumental patisserie paintings of Alice De Vliegher meet around one seductive theme: food!

Sigler chooses precision and intimacy. Her elegant still lifes of silver and copper heirlooms bring together cherished family objects as “families of objects.” Cutlery and tableware are carefully arranged and rendered with refined technique, with close attention to reflection, texture, and nuance. The laid table appears as a place of memory and connection.

De Vliegher, by contrast, enlarges her pastries to impressive proportions. Cakes, glazes, and swirls of cream become monumental, almost architectural. With sensual, powerful brushstrokes and rich colors, she elevates the everyday cake to the status of an icon. Her works dominate the space, transforming sweetness into something overwhelming and physical.

The contrast in scale and approach, refined versus monumental, intensifies their dialogue. Where Sigler reveals the quiet rituals surrounding the table,  De Vliegher magnifies the desire that follows. Together, they show how delicious food and table culture become carriers of emotion and tradition.
