Douwe Elias in the Rijksmuseum!

Douwe Elias is one of the selected artists who, inspired by Rembrandt, are allowed to show a work of art in the Rijksmuseum! The painting on display there is of his life companion Leonie. A 1996 painting measuring 60 x 65 cm.

At the beginning of this year, more than 8,000 people from 95 countries responded to the call to submit a homemade artwork inspired by Rembrandt. 563 entries will be displayed in the Rijksmuseum under the title: Long Live Rembrandt. On the anniversary of Rembrandt, July 15, the artists themselves open the exhibition Long Live Rembrandt, which can be seen until September 15 in the Philips Wing of the Rijksmuseum.

In 2019 it will be 350 years since Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) died. Reason to honor the artist and to give extra attention to his work, his contemporaries and the 17th century. This comes together in the theme year Rembrandt and the Golden Age, with numerous exhibitions and activities across the country. The Rijksmuseum concludes this festive year with the exhibition Rembrandt-Velázquez, Dutch and Spanish masters (October 11, 2019 - January 19, 2020) with masterpieces by Rembrandt and his contemporaries from the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, among others.
