Rebecca Orcutt received a bachelor’s degree in painting from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art in New York City. While enrolled at the NYAA, she was a President’s Scholar and was awarded the Leipzig International Art Programme Residency in Germany. Recently Rebecca won the Young Artist Award at the Herbert Smith Freehills Portrait Award.
Much of her work focuses on quiet moments, the in-between times that aren’t clearly good or bad, just part of everyday waiting. Things may look the same, but somehow feel different.
Change isn’t always dramatic or clearly positive or negative. Often, it happens in small, everyday moments, almost unnoticed, through subtle shifts in emotion and the way we slowly see our surroundings and each other differently.
