The Female Gaze

22 April - 20 May 2023
Overview

The Female Gaze is a term used in recent years to describe art that undermines the universal and ever-present male perspective. It's a way to relate to how visual media can depict a female view of the world. But is there such a thing as a male or female gaze? How does an artwork exemplify the feminine gaze? Is it enough for it to have been made by a woman? One thing is certain: we will only be able to identify such a female gaze and contribute to a more diverse range of perspectives if we devote attention to women painters.

This group show celebrates contemporary women artists and, however modest, hopes to contribute to their empowerment. Welcome to the second edition of The Female Gaze!
