Agostino Rocco

Agostino Rocco was born in Padua in 1971, where he lives and works. A self-taught artist, Rocco has dedicated himself to the study of art history, particularly the works of those masters who have become and remain a constant source of inspiration: the great Tuscan and Flemish artists of the 15th century, as well as the French and Dutch schools of the 17th century.

Rocco's technically dazzling creations are in the tradition of portraiture, imbued with historical atmosphere and sobriety. Upon closer inspection, however, they reveal a subversive streak of humor and unexpected anachronisms that serve to subvert our assumptions while remaining wonderfully seductive. Rocco thus manages to glide between two worlds, offering classic images revisited with a modern twist.
