Eline Brontsema

Eline Brontsema (1988) graduated at the Klassieke Academie in Groningen in 2020. Through her
teacher Siemen Dijkstra, she came into contact with woodcuts.

For her prints she makes use of the reduction technique: the print is created from a single wooden plate. Part of the plate is cut out, so that the higher parts absorb ink and can be printed. After that, the work needs to dry and the next part can be cut out. To make editions, this process must be repeated. Then the second colour can be printed.
While traditionally this woodcut technique uses a limited amount of colours, Eline makes detailed prints with many different colour layers, which gives her work painterly qualities. This time consuming way of working requires a lot of patience. The atmosphere of a place plays an important role in her work. By using colour and light, she tries to create a world where you would like to be.

During her studies her work was exhibited in Museum De Buitenplaats in Eelde (Groningen) and she received the International On Paper Printmaking Award 2019.
